There were plenty of smiling faces in Batley market place on 30 Nov when the #Christmas lights were switched on by the deputy Mayor of Kirklees Nigel Patrick, ably assisted, of course by Santa. The market place was packed as local people came out in their thousands to celebrate the start of the festive season in Batley.
From 3p.m the crowds were treated to none stop entertainment on the stage, featuring local performance groups and soloists, with plenty of Christmas tunes to keep people humming along. The Christmas market was full of all manner of treats and goodies, whether shopping for presents or a treat for yourself.
Santa was kept busy in his grotto making sure to find out what all the local children would like to find under the tree. And plenty of selfies were taken in the giant Christmas snow globe.
The event was again organised by the Batley Business Association supported by Kirklees Council.
