Batley Frontier Demolition

Batley’s famous Frontier nightclub could be torn down to make way for a retail park or office complex, it has been revealed.

Developer Richard Morton has been asked by its owners to survey the building and suggest potential uses for the site.

The shock announcement was made at Monday’s meeting of the Batley History Group, which was dedicated to Batley Variety Club, the Frontier’s predecessor, and the stars that performed there.

Mr Morton asked the group for ideas of how the club’s memory can be incorporated into the new development.

He said: “While we recognise that the club no longer enjoys the attraction or support of former years we should not forget the power and pride of its past.”

Batley Variety Club opened in 1967 and attracted international stars to its stage, including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Louis Armstrong.
