Stop the delay and sort your LPA
Written by Chloe Lord, Trainee Solicitor
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) have announced that from the 17th November 2025 the fee to register a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is increasing from £82 to £92 per document.
What is an LPA?
An LPA is a legal document that allows individuals to appoint people they trust (the attorneys) to manage their affairs.
There are two types of LPA:
- Property and Financial Affairs- allows the attorneys to manage your money, property, and financial matters. This LPA can be used as soon as it’s registered.
- Health and Welfare-allows the attorneys to make decisions about your health, care, and daily life. This LPA can only be used only once you lose the mental capacity to make those decisions yourself
Why should I make an LPA?
LPA’s are extremely powerful documents that can be used within your lifetime. If you were to lose mental capacity and did not have an LPA in place, then your family members would face a long and costly process with the Court of Protection to be able to gain the authority to manage your affairs.
The implications of the increase
For an individual registering both a Property & Financial Affairs LPA and a Health & Welfare LPA:
Before 17 Nov 2025: £82 × 2 = £164
After 17 Nov 2025: £92 × 2 = £184
That’s an additional £20 you could save by acting now.
