COVID 19 Update

During these unprecedented times we as a business have taken steps to both comply with the government requirements in respect of lockdown but also to continue to provide a full legal service.

Many firms have largely closed meaning that it is impossible to progress certain types of work. Wherever possible we are remaining open for business so that we are in a position to progress any existing and new matter. It is however inevitable that given the varying approach taken by many businesses that there are often circumstances where it is simply impossible for us to progress anything further until such time as the lockdown is lifted.

Wherever possible we would be grateful if you would please correspond with us by email utilising your existing contact details. Please always quote your reference in the subject heading as this helps enormously.  All emails will be received and confirmed as receivedautomatically.  This does not mean that they have yet been viewed or actioned.   We will deal with them as soon as possible according to urgency.

Your patience is gratefully appreciated as we are as a firm operating on a skeleton staff basis with key members working as normal. This is a mix of people working both in the office and at home as appropriate.

Specific guidance in respect of different types of work is provided below.

We are still in the office and working on majority of existing matters.

We have a system set up so that we can take instructions and provide you with the initial papers. We can also liaise with estate agents and other solicitors to try and make as much progress on your case as is possible given the circumstances.

Personal injury

Our personal injury department remains open despite these challenging times. We are continuing to progress your case and will continue to use all our best endeavours to keep you up-to-date with developments as and when there is news.

We are however finding that many insurance companies and defence solicitors are operating on significantly reduced staff levels which means it is more difficult than normal to get responses from them. As we know you understand, there will inevitably be longer periods between our contact with you.

We are of course focusing on urgent matters such as ongoing court proceedings, limitation dates, et cetera.

If there is anything that you would like to know about your case then please contact Andrew Marsden on andrewmarsden@brearleyssolicitors.com or by telephone on 01924 473065.

We are able to assist in relation to any new claim or matter. We understand that accidents will still happen and there is no reason to delay beginning a new claim.

For any advice in relation to new matters please use the contact information above or telephone 01924 667860.

Mediation

Whilst it is not possible given current circumstances for face-to-face mediation to take place, now may well be the time to consider this as an option to resolve that ongoing dispute once things begin to return to normal.

At a time when the country faces unprecedented challenges and at a time when we continue to see such positive levels of cooperation in industry, business and the community at large, we can see how well things can be resolved when people talk and try and reach a solution rather than argue. Mediation is there to help you with that process.

Just think how nice it would be to mediate and resolve that long-running time sapping argument.

For information about our civil and commercial mediation scheme please contact andrewmarsden@brearleyssolicitors.com or 01924 667860.

Commercial

This area of work is not subject to the same restrictions as residential property work and notwithstanding the Coronavirus outbreak businesses and companies are trying their best to move forward especially those in the key industries

Michael Barber who is a solicitor experienced in this area of work is dealing with our commercial work.  He is working from home but has all the facilities to ensure that there is as little interruption in his department as possible.

He is available to deal with any new enquiries whether it be a simple advice on the phone or whether you need to instruct him in relation to any new transaction.  For our existing commercial clients he will endeavour to progress any ongoing commercial transactions with a view to completing them in spite of the current difficulties.

Naturally he has to rely on others including you the clients, other parties, their solicitors, agents and lenders but so far the response and co-operation has been very positive.

Michael’s contact details are:
