Festivals success
Every year Brearleys takes part in local festivals and assists local charities in raising money for both local and national causes This year's festivals had a common theme - rain! But we didn't let that dampen our spirits and a great time was had by all, meeting the public, judging a talent competition, answering legal questions and handing out hundreds of balloons to lots of happy children We would like to offer our thanks and continued support to the organisers and volunteers at the Batley Carnival for Life and at the Cleckheaton Folk Festival
Happy Birthday Cleckheaton Folk Festival! As usual, Brearleys were ever present at the 21st birthday of the Cleckheaton Folk Festival which took place over the weekend of 4th, 5th and 6th July 2008. Unfortunately, the weather did not realise it was a birthday celebration as it was raining almost all of the weekend apart from a brief window of sunshine during Saturday afternoon. As the Folk Festival organisers, David and Jeff are well used to the changeable British weather during the Folk Festival weekend they had put in place well worked contingency plans which meant moving a lot of the festival events that would have ordinarily been outside to the cover of the indoor market which included crazy golf and a very popular children’s entertainer. Due to the weather the festival didn’t seem as well attended as last year when the weather was slightly better but the people that did attend were well entertained by a variety of acts, most of which performed in the grand settings of Cleckheaton Town Hall. It was nice to see that the event was attended by people of all ages showing that folk music has no age boundaries. To celebrate the 21st birthday of the Folk Festival we had special balloons printed and to give an idea as to how many children attended the event, we have estimated that we handed out over 350 balloons over the course of the weekend. Given the great atmosphere that the Folk Festival brings to the town of Cleckheaton Brearleys would like to wish them all the best for the future and here’s to the next 21 years!
